According to Yo Maps, competition is essential for growth, but only when it genuinely pushes an artiste to improve creatively and professionally.

“I love competition and I actually need it,” he said. “But there’s a type of competition that truly matters to me, and another that I honestly feel is unnecessary.”

“Comparing me to Chile One is unnecessary. It may work for him, but he is trying to achieve what I’ve already done before,” Yo Maps explained.

Highlighting Major Career Milestones

Yo Maps went on to highlight his accomplishments, noting that he has reached performance milestones that only a handful of local artistes have achieved.

“I’ve filled up Showgrounds, performed multiple times at major music clubs, and even fille Heroes Stadium

,” he said. “These are levels many artistes in Zambia are still working towards.”

Looking Beyond Local Comparisons

Rather than engaging in local rivalries, Yo Maps revealed that his personal competition lies beyond Zambia’s borders. He said he measures his growth against some of Africa’s biggest music stars.

The singer mentioned artistes such as
Stonebwoy,
Rema,
Diamond Platnumz,
and
Harmonize
as the kind of artistes who genuinely motivate him to aim higher.

“That’s the level of competition I focus on,” he said. “It challenges me to improve my sound, performance, and brand.”

Competition Should Inspire, Not Create Drama

Yo Maps concluded by stressing that competition in the music industry should be constructive rather than divisive.

He warned against narratives that spark unnecessary drama, stating that such comparisons often distract artistes from meaningful progress.

“Competition should inspire growth and excellence,” he said. “It shouldn’t create noise that doesn’t add value.”
